    Local radio stations and regional TV broadcasters: good coverage of regional events

    In 2025, all licensed regional TV broadcasters met the minimum requirement for regional news coverage for the first time. This is shown by the latest programme analysis published by the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) on its website on 1 June 2026. In 2024, all licensed local radio stations had already met this requirement.

    Gross domestic product in the first quarter of 2026: Growth picks up at the start of the year

    In the first quarter of 2026, Switzerland’s gross domestic product (GDP) adjusted for sporting events grew by 0.4%, following growth of 0.2% in the previous quarter.(1) (2) The industrial sector was a key driver of growth. Growth in the services sector was subdued, with varied results across segments. Domestic final demand was weak.

    The national ‘Equality prevents violence’ campaign enters its second phase

    From 1 June, the prevention of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence will once again be the focus of a nationwide campaign across Switzerland. The campaign will draw attention to the plight of victims of violence and raise awareness of support services available to them – including the new Victim Support Helpline 142.

    Useful life of F/A-18C/D of the Swiss Air Force extended

    The work for extending the useful life of the F/A-18C/D combat aircraft of the Swiss Air Force is complete. The operational readiness of the Swiss F/A-18C/D fleet is therefore ensured into the early 2030s and thus up to the introduction of the new F-35A combat aircraft.

    Long-range ground-based air defence: Information received from contacted providers

    The Federal Office for Defence Procurement armasuisse today received the last documents from the contacted manufacturers in four countries regarding an additional system for long-range ground-based air defence. The information received is now being analysed and will serve as a basis, so that the Federal Council will be able to decide on the next steps over the summer.

    4.7% increase in supplementary accommodation in 2025

    Supplementary accommodation recorded 18.1 million overnight stays in 2025, a 4.7% increase over the previous year. Demand by foreign visitors rose by 9.8% to 6.3 million overnight stays and domestic demand rose by 2.1% to 11.7 million overnight stays.
